“Hey Laserlips. Your mama was a snowblower.”
I think we all remember Short Circuit the movie right? I am not sure how
one could not. If you celebrate Steve Guttenberg’s entire film catalog like I do, then you would definitely know that he peaked in this movie and not the Police Academy movies or 3 Men and a Baby like some ignorant people would claim. Don’t be ridiculous people. Long before Shai LeBouf started acting with robots we had Steve. Basically, he set the stage for human/robot interaction and for that, Steve, we thank you. You got the people at Hasbro thinking that a cartoon movie with Optimus Prime was not enough.
Not only was Steve brilliant in this movie but so was his partner in crime Johnny 5. Per www.imdb.com: “Number 5, one of a group of experimental military robots, undergoes a sudden transformation after being struck by lightning. He develops self-awareness, consciousness, and a fear of the reprogramming that awaits him back at the factory. With the help of a young woman, Number 5 tries to evade capture and convince his creator that he has truly become alive. Written by Jean-Marc Rocher {rocher@fiberbit.net}“
Seriously folks, can one think of a better plot for a movie than that? I submit that they cannot! Not only is it a family movie, but a sci-fi and a comedy with a little bit of romance thrown in there for the ladies. It can’t lose.
And for all of those that watched this movie back in ‘86, we loved Johnny. I think we all feel like robots at time and Johnny reminded us that we too are “alive”. For being a robot he had a great sense of humor and was a lover/defender of man kind.
Why am I now writing about this 1986 movie. Well, it is because our beloved mechanical hero is being dusted off and sold to the highest bidder. Just take a look for yourself and see.
Update: Apparently this auction may have been a fake because it is no longer listed on eBay.
