“Music takes us out of the actual and whispers to us dim secrets that startle our wonder as to who we are, and for what, whence, and whereto.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Here we go with another post on music, but to those that know me this is probably no surprise. I like me some music. Is that so wrong? I have decided that I might post every once in a while on the music I am currently listening to in case you might want to take a gander for yourself. So here are some people that I recently came upon.

A Fine Frenzy
This is really just a girl and her piano. Alison Sudol is a 22 year-old self-taught pianist that has an incredible voice. Currently, A Fine Frenzy has the single of the week on iTunes which means you can download it for free. Also, she will be in Birmingham at Workplay on September 24th with Brandi Carlisle who I hear puts on a killer show. I think I might have to check out these two incredible talents. If you want to hear a little more then click here and hit play on the audio player.

Great Northern
Aside from having a pretty rad website this group makes some pretty rad music. Supposedly, the band members are all former band members of 30 Seconds to Mars, Earlimart, Milla, Whirlpool, Stanford Prison Experiment, etc. If I had to compare them to another band I would have to say they sound somewhat like Stars. If you have $6 to throw down on a cd that someone suggested I would do it because that is the cost of their cd on iTunes and you get 11 songs. That is kind of hard to beat. If you want to hear some samples you can to to their website or their virb profile.

Sleeping At Last
So I saw these guys several years ago as they were opening for Switchfoot and their first impression on me was that I wish I had been sleeping rather than hear their music. However, supposedly Billy Corgan got a hold of them, signed them to his label, and made them rerecord their stuff giving it new life. If he is in fact the one that did that then way to go Billy. I never really had reason to doubt you, but I never heard you produce other albums to know what you could do. Well, Sleepings sophomoric album, Keep No Score, is one of my favorites. You can sample some of their music on their myspace page. This album came out a year ago but if you had never heard of them you wouldn’t know to look for it. Look for it.

Lastly, this guy is somewhat popular, but get the new Matt Nathanson cd. It is only $8 on iTunes and totally worth it.

Be gone!

PS – It is 105 degrees outside right now!
